NEW Music Monday: Feb. Week 2

Welcome to your one stop shop on what's happening in the music world and what Fire on the Fountain has to say about it.

This weeks NEW Music Monday captures Justin Bieber's new single release as well as his Saturday Night Live performance, the tour announcement from Dead & Company, new album releases from Galantis and Oh Wonder, as well as coverage of the new soundtracks from Birds of Prey & To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. And I can't forget about all the other single releases from SLANDER & NGHTMRE, Louis The Child, Trippie Redd, Khalid, Griz, Ripe, and Nicki Minaj.

JB ON SNL

If you happened to miss it, Bieber graced Saturday Night Live with two live performances. Prior to watching, my boyfriend and I placed bets on which two songs he would perform and to our surprise, we were spot on.

Bieber's first performance began with a band rendition of "Yummy" showcasing his vocal ability but then quickly transitioned into strutting his hip hop moves (which if you have been following for a while, I totally called that the "Yummy" dance would become a signature to Bieber's dancing repertoire).

His second performance was of "Intentions," the newest pre-release from his new album Changes. (See later in the post for more on the release of this song). Mid performance, Quavo hit the stage for his verse in the jam. You could tell the two were vibing as they both "ad libbed" each others performance, hyping each other up.

Although a rather brief performance on SNL, we don't have much longer left to wait until the release of Changes next Friday.

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dead & Company

Current Dead & Company band members (Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Oteil Burbridge, John Mayer and Jeff Chimenti) have announced their Summer 2020 Tour. Check out the dates and locations here.

NEW ALBUM RELEASES

Church by Galantis

Galantis is known for their signature pop and electronic dance vibe. The release of their new album, Church, follows suit. Although I like a couple of songs from the album, I expected Galantis to use this opportunity to break away from their cookie cutter dance/club vibe. Regardless of my personal Impression of the album, below are the most notable tracks from the release.

Top Songs:

To All the Boys P.S. I Still Love You Soundtrack

Lara Jean's Netflix love story received an audio soundtrack prior to the films release on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. Picked up by Capitol Records, the soundtrack includes new releases as well as some older ones.

New Songs Featured:

These are the songs that are exclusive features to this album.

"About Love" by MARINA

"Midnight Sun" by OTR & Ukiyo

“Candy” (feat. Ryan Chambers) by Bad Child

"As I'll Ever Be" by Chaz Cardigan

"Honest" by Hanne Mjoen

"You Should Be Dancing" by The New Respects

Birds of Prey Soundtrack

The movie, Bird of Prey, released Feb. 7 depicts the epic Harley Quinn post-break up with the Joker. Starred in by Margot Robbie, this film has been so hyped up and is supposed to be a kick ass twisted tale about the history behind the one and only, Harley Freaking Quinn. I can't wait to see this movie... stay tuned for a possible review... but until I have time to catch it on the big screen, I will fill the void by breaking down the soundtrack as over 15 artists were included in the genre-bending project. Check out the track-list and breakdown below.

These are the songs to pay attention to:

No One Else Can Wear Your Crown by Oh Wonder

This songwriter/producer duo has released their third studio album. Lesser known to mainstream music listeners, Oh Wonder is best known for their alternative pop-electronic sound but also known widely to the masses for their appearance on a Lil Uzi Vert track, "The Way Life Goes." Other than that song, there are a few other features - "Body Gold" (Louis the Child Remix) and "Shark" (Illenium Remix) - I have heard by the duo before I heard about this album and it's release.

NEW SINGLE RELEASES

"Intentions (feat. Quavo)" by Justin Bieber

With a catchy R&B tune Justin Bieber takes a song, presumably written about his wife, and uses it to make a global impact on issues that are clearly of importance to him. The song itself is 10/10 but the music video had me in my feels.

In the video we meet Bahri, Marcy, and Angela, all strong women struggling to make life work while trying to improve the lives of others with similar struggles. The video tackles these women facing poverty, the foster care system, and homelessness. In the production, the Biebs and Quavo take time to meet these women, recognize them as "pillars of their community," and help them conquer their dreams while paying tribute to the Alexandria House.

"Don't Mind" by Louis the Child

I had a strong feeling that The Here for Now Tour wouldn't be the only announcement coming from the duo in early 2020. Accompanying that news, is the release of "Don't Mind."

"Feeling Gud (feat. Matthew Santos)" by SLANDER & NGHTMRE

As long time friends, NGHTMRE and SLANDER have come together again after a 4 year pause on their musical collaborations. Their big return is the release of the single "Feeling Gud." Obsessed with this new EDM take on a jazz classic.

"YELL OH (feat. Young Thug)" by Trippie Redd

"All In My Head (feat. grandson)" by Whethan

"Know Your Worth" by Khalid & Disclosure

"Could U (Club Mix)" by GRIZ

"First Time Feeling" by Ripe

"Yikes" by Nicki Minaj

You thought she was done? Yikes... The queen of rap has come out of retirement.

"Moment" by Victoria Monét

"Hurts Like Hell" by Wrabel

"Still Be Friends (feat. Tory Lanez & Tyga)" by G-Eazy

"Obama (feat. DaBaby)" by Blueface

As you can see, a lot has happened this week but get ready for more new releases next week. Catch up on what's hot with me every Monday.

XOXO. Peace and blessings.
